Colorado mortgage broker charged with Theft
Monday, September 15, 2008 at 12:02PM The I-Team at 10 News in San Diego is reporting on its investigations into former Colorado mortgage broker Stephen Benaske. In a videotaped interview with the I-Team Benaske stated he had moved to from Denver (CO) to San Diego (CA) and was working in “loss mitigation and was offering to use his expertise to negotiate with lenders on behalf of homeowners. The report also states that he was in the process of setting up a company called The Short Pay Center
Denver County Court and Colorado Dept of Real Estate records show that Benaske has been charged with Theft of over $15,000 and is currently on bail to the Denver County Court with court date due on October 1, 2008. This charge stems from allegations that he misappropriated $80,893 which were the proceeds of a mortgage refinance.
Erin Toll, Director of the Division of Real Estate states on tape that the funds has been spent by Benaske on things like a vacation to Mexico and other personal items.
